Get Ready for Comet SWAN

It’s a rare and beautiful thing when a new comet swings through our Solar System. That’s just what’s happening now with Comet SWAN (C/2020 F8). While it’s not quite visible currently (both due to weather and its faintness), it’s likely it will reach visible brightness in the coming weeks, or at least be visible through binoculars or small telescopes.

To read more about its history, check out Sky & Telescope’s article here:

Comet SWAN Expected to Put on a Splendid Show - Sky & Telescope

When Comet ATLAS (C/2019 Y4) began to fragment and fade in April our hopes for a bright comet this spring appeared quashed. But just in the nick of time Comet SWAN (C/2020 F8) came to the rescue, shooting across the sky faster than a speeding bullet and wearing a magnificent green cape to boot!

We’ll continue to post updates and observing guides as it brightens.

Check back each weekday @ 5:00 pm for more observing guides and science news!
