Tour the Space Shuttle in 3D

Up until 2011, NASA had a rich (and sometimes troubled) history launching astronauts from Kennedy Space Center in Florida using the reusable Space Shuttle fleet. After the shuttle Atlantis was retired on July 21, 2011, NASA partnered with space agencies in other countries to launch astronauts to the International Space Station, and continued looking for ways to reinstate a US-based launch capability.

The SpaceX Dragon 2 flight will mark the return of that historic US launch capability and a return to operations at Kennedy Space Center. The legacy of NASA’s manned spaceflight program has perhaps no more prominent icon than the Space Shuttle fleet. Google has partnered with the National Air & Space Museum to offer an unprecedented 3D virtual tour inside the Space Shuttle Discovery, hosted by astronauts Maj Gen Charlie Bolden and Dr. Kathy Sullivan, who helped deliver the Hubble Space Telescope to orbit on STS-31.
