Omega Centauri and Comet NEOWISE

This week we have local astrophotographer Jim Miller with us for a program Wednesday @ 6 PM to discuss imaging the night sky. We’ll feature his work here and if you’d like to see his work in person, his work is on display currently at Ozo coffee shop, 5340 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO  until August 1, after which they’ll be at Niwot Coffee 7960 Niwot Rd D13, Niwot, CO for the month of September.

Don’t forget to check out comet NEOWISE in the evening, just underneath the Big Dipper after sunset. Read more here:

Comet NEOWISE Dazzles at Dusk - Sky & Telescope

"Spectacular." "Amazing." "Beautiful." "Awesome." Those are just a few of the words first-time observers have used to describe Comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3). I agree 1,000 percent - this is one incredible comet! NEOWISE transitions from the dawn to the dusk sky this week.

The attached image is the cluster Omega Centauri, per Jim:

“Omega Centauri is considered the finest globular cluster in the heavens. It is one of the most magnificent objects within the range of an amateur telescope. It is not observed very often within the United States because of how far south it lies in the sky. Located at a distance of 15,800 light years in the constellation of Centaurus, Omega Centauri (also known as NGC 5139) contains some 10 million stars.”
